Lupine, or lupin (lupines polyphyllus) is considered a wildflower here in Nova Scotia, escaped from cultivation, and taken up home on roadsides and meadows. It remains a popular perennial flower in our gardens as well, and looks wonderful in mass plantings or dispersed with other cottage garden flowers. There are also annual varieties of Lupine.

We live in Nova Scotia, where wild lupines line the ditches and roadways with big show-stopping displays. I have, quite often, jumped from the car to grab handfuls!

Lupine -planted from a nursery start — 1st yr. just leaves - 2nd year about 12 blooms — this year — 40 blooms and still producing . Last yr. I planted a 6-pac.. Will be my first time for planting seeds here in Nova Scotia, as they grow every where and are so pretty when driving to see fields of them in all there glory and multiple.

July 12, 2017 Do you know what happens in June in the Maritime Provinces? The lupins, pink, white and purple, burst into glorious bloom on every roadway, ditch and path.
